Composers

Composers:

A composer, trumpeter and recording engineer Richard Bailey manages to combine all that with being one of the nicest guys on the planet. He was also best man at my wedding. He teaches at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff

Armando Bayola and The Great Noise Ensemble live and work in the Washington DC and Baltimore region of the USA. Armando was a student at the National Music Camp when I taught there in 1989 and 1990. He has matured into a fine composer, conductor and entreprenuer. His ensemble perform and exicting an innovative program and are well worth seeing!

Peter Capelle is an old friend from my days in Clevleand. He is currently living the dream in New York City and carving a name for himself. Check him out!

Barry Conyngham is one of this Australia's most distinguished composers and, arguably, the leading composer of his generation. I was fortunate enough to have him as both a teacher and mentor in my undergradaute years. After a brilliant creative and academic career, he is now a full time composer. You should get to know his music if ti isn't familiar to you already.

Bruce Crossman is originally from New Zealand and from an artistic family. He has carved a career as a highly original composer, His sense of colour and rhythm owe a lot to his upbringing in such a fascinating family, but he is his own man with an individual and exciting sound. He is also published by Wirripang

Composer, teacher, improvisor and banjo virtuoso Paul Elwood teaches at the University of North Colorado at Greely. His site is a superb, as his is music!

One of the great composers of the 20th century, Donald Erb was my teacher for my Masters degree in Cleveland. He dies a couple of years back, and I still miss him and knowing he was there to ask the occasional piece of advice from.

David Felder was my supervisor for my PHD. He is Birge-Carey Professor of Composition at the State University of New York at Buffalo, which is even more impressive than it sounds. David was a superb teacher and a great person to bounce ideas of. He was giving in every sense of the word, and has remained a firm friend ever since. A great composer who writes music that is exciting and uncompromising.

Boston-based composer and clarinetist
Karl Henning maintains a fascinating site and blog which are always interesting and provocative.

Dual national British/Australian composer, organist and musicologist Philip Nunn lives in Ealing Abbey in London where he teaches, preaches and composes some very beautiful music. He is a close and dear friend and a priest in the Benedictine order.

Paul Osterfield was once a student of mine at the National Music Camp at Interlochen Michigan (now called the Interlochen Arts Camp). Since then he has gone on to take his doctorate and teaches at Northern Tennessee State University in Nashville.

Christina Green is a songwriter and old friend from my Melbourne days. Her new website is here

Andrew Rudin  is adinstinguished American compsoer with a lot of great music behind him. His superb viola concerto is the pieces playing first on his website

Steven Stuckey is on of America's leading composers. Check out his website to find out why!

Peter Tahourdin is perhaps one of Australia's most underratead composes because of the interst he took making sure other people had good careers before the thought of himself. He was mt first teacher, and a great confidant and friend. I miss him very much.
